Glenn Gruber hat einen sehr interessanten Artikel über die mögliche Rolle von Google Wallet im Reisebereich verfasst. Er geht dabei sowohl auf die Chancen als auch die Risiken ein. Auch er ist sich am Ende nicht ganz sicher, ob Google Wallet erfolgreich sein kann/wird oder nicht.

Google hat gestern ein neues Produkt (in US) vorgestellt: Google Wallet. Im Google Wallet können Kreditkarten, Bonuskarten, Gutscheine, … hinterlegt werden. Mittels NFC kann man dann damit bezahlen.

At first, Google Wallet will support both Citi MasterCard and a Google Prepaid Card, which you’ll be able to fund with almost any payment card. From the outset, you’ll be able to tap your phone to pay wherever MasterCard PayPass is accepted. Google Wallet will also sync your Google Offers, which you’ll be able to redeem via NFC at participating SingleTap™ merchants, or by showing the barcode as you check out. Many merchants are working to integrate their offers and loyalty programs with Google Wallet.

Derzeit ist das ganze nur in USA verfügbar und die Technik wird auch noch nicht von allen Smartphones unterstützt. Man darf gespannt sein wie sich das ganze weiterentwickelt. Ich hoffe mal, dass das doch sehr ähnliche Google Wave Logo keinen Indiz auf den Erfolg des Produkts ist
